Host School Eligibility for the H-1B Program:

This visa category applies to a foreign national who wishes to perform services in a specialty occupation on a temporary basis. International teachers in the U.S. on a temporary employment usually have this visa. In order for a U.S. school employer to hire an international teacher with this visa program, the teacher must meet one of the following criteria:

  • Publicly or privately operated primary or secondary institutions for the education of children in the United States

  • Offer mainly academic programs

  • Accredited by the appropriate academic accrediting authority of the jurisdiction in which the school is located

  • Will offer the teacher a full-time position of at least 32 hours per week of teaching or related administrative duties

  • Will offer the teacher a position term that coincides with the regular academic school year, in full-year terms (*with the exception of a case-by-case basis)
